Hello we're Jan & Gail Zarr, Founders of Oma & Popie's

Our Story

It all began on one of our early dates when Jan shared his love for dive bars and chicken wings with Gail. Little did we know, this simple confession would lead to a cross-country adventure in search of the best wings and sauces in the USA. We tasted hundreds of wings across the country, but no matter where we went, we found that the sauces, though different in name, all tasted the same.

Oma & Popie’s is more than a brand — it’s a reflection of who we are and what we believe food should do.

When we chose the name Oma & Popie’s, it wasn’t just a nod to grandparents — it was a commitment to what they represent. Grandparents are the heart of the family. They gather everyone around the table. They create traditions. They pass down stories. They understand that food isn’t just about eating — it’s about connection.

That’s the spirit we built this company on.

What started in our kitchen as a passion for bold, layered flavor quickly turned into something bigger. We saw a gap — too many sauces were predictable, too many seasonings were one-note. We wanted more. More depth. More balance. More sweet-meets-heat. Long before “swicy” became a trend, we were crafting flavors that brought sweet and spicy together in a way that just worked.

Our flagship Sweet & Spicy original sauce "Wingin' It" set the tone. From there, we pushed boundaries — developing sauces, spice blends, and now beef jerky that are bold, balanced, and anything but ordinary. Every product we create is intentional. Every flavor is layered. Every label carries our name — and that means something to us.

As we’ve grown, won awards, and expanded into new markets, one thing hasn’t changed: we’re still building this with heart. We care about quality. We care about community. And we care about creating products that people are proud to bring to their own family tables.

Oma & Popie’s honors tradition — but we’re not afraid to innovate. We respect legacy — but we turn up the flavor.

Because at the end of the day, great flavor brings people together.
